Born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Ashwin developed a passion for cooking at the age of 17. After enrolling to culinary school, he chanced upon an opportunity to live and work in France – learning traditional French cuisine and patisserie in Toulouse, and soon under Two-star Michelin and Bocuse D’or winning chef, Franck Putelat, in Carcassonne.
In 2013, Ashwin snagged the gold medal in his first competition, and was ready for more. Representing Malaysia in various competitions across countries like Vietnam, India, New Zealand and Brazil, Ashwin has now made a name for himself. He spent some time off last year to practice and sharpen his skills by selling pastries and catering for private events. Currently in Laos to kickstart a new restaurant – Blu. At the Mandala – as head chef, Ashwin has got foodies and culinary fanatics on their toes wanting more!
Pairing his beautiful creations with photography on Instagram, it’s no wonder that Ashwin is slowly but surely gaining a following. His scrummy feed is sure to tantalise your eyes and taste buds — perhaps making your mouth water a little too. With such a wide and successful repertoire, it is hard to believe that Ashwin is only 23-years-old! It is true when they say that “age is just a number” – you can achieve anything, as long as you work hard and put your mind to it.
